Inspired by the 1960's hunting jacket made famous by renowned Gonzo journalist and author, Hunter S. Thompson. The Real McCoy's brings us one of the most detailed replica's yet, which comes as a blessing as the original is notoriously hard to come by.
As this is a seriously complex jacket, the pattern making of this jacket took five times the usual time it takes to make a jacket due to the many details and intricate number of pieces it requires in its construction.
The Real McCoy's found, when studying the original jacket from their archive that while most of the jackets patchwork is sewn with the sewing seam higher on the bottom side, only the right sleeve was sewn with the sewing seam higher on the upper side. This was likely taken into consideration in the design to account for the movement involved when holding a rifle under the arm.
Matching details to the original jacket, including the arm positioning, the patchworked sections of the jacket are all sewn with lap seams; using only a single needle machine for durability and cleaner finish rather than a more conventional industrial felling machine.
