This sweater is based on a 1930's training sweater from the A.G. Spalding archive. Made on tubular Loopwheel machines it features a beautiful jersey fabric which is finished with a double V-insert on the neckline and angled ribbed cuffs. The combination of these specific details paired with the amazing fabric makes this sweater something else really.
The fabric has been woven on vintage hanging knitting machines in Wakayama that weave at a sluggish pace providing a small amount of fabric a day. These were standard sweatshirt production machines until the 1960's when production methods moved elsewhere. There are about 400 of these machines remaining in Japan (with only 200 in production) and they produce roughly a meter of fabric an hour - they require skilled craftsman to operate these machines in order to produce vintage like fabrics.
