The British Royal Navy windproof smock was originally designed for crew members working out on aircraft carrier decks, where wind was a constant companion.
Most people recognize the later version with the front flap used to secure communication cables, a design that’s become one of the most well-known British military garments. But this piece goes deeper, faithfully recreating the ultra-rare first model. Produced only briefly and in very limited numbers in 1958, it’s an original so obscure that even seasoned collectors barely know it exists.
The smock is very adjustable size wise, as the hood, waist, hem, and wrists all have strings and straps that can be tied or buttoned accordingly to keep wind and rain firmly out.
This is McCoy's at it's best, history and knowledge put into a perfect smock jacket. Made with the help of the Saunders Militaria archive based in Nova Scotia, Canada.
