The All Handsewn Maine Guide Chukka is Yuketen's modern interpretation of the classic chukka that is rendered from an organic composition of leather, rubber and traditional moccasin construction. The unlined, two-eyelet shoe’s raw character is supported by details such as the omission of eyelets and an intentionally-unfinished leather edge at the ankle.
As one of Yuketen’s most challenging handsewn moccasins, the All Handsewn Maine Guide Chukka is a testament to the incomparable capability of Yuketen’s handsewers. These boots are proudly crafted in the USA from Horween’s full-grain Buckaroo pull-up leather, tanned in Chicago. Leather born of a unique double-tanning process of vegetable and chrome treatments, which imbues the leather with pleasantly aromatic liquor notes. Its suppleness, revealing of lighter tones in its oiled surface when stretched, makes it particularly suitable to moccasin construction.
To closely mirror the incongruence of the human foot and deliver a molded fit, multiple pieces of leather are hand-sewn and hand-lasted on Yuketen’s proprietary last, which was developed in the 1950s and was known as the best shoe last for an American-made moccasin. In addition, the base of the vamp has been cinched to further ensure an integumentary fit.
Full vegetable-tanned leather insoles, slow recovery memory foam and arch support increase a comfortability as the leather insoles absorb the moisture and help to keep the feet dry while it start molding to a shape of the feet as wear’s foot over time. The crepe outsoles are made out of 100% natural rubber and are handstitched to the upper in 360 degrees angle, which requires high skilled techniques. This natural crepe soles provide superb shock absorption and an incredibly soft and slip-resistant tread, ensuring sublime comfort for the wearer.
Sizing: Yuketen moccasin styles are true to US standard size. We recommend checking your shoe size in the New Balance Made in USA models (ex. 993, 996, 998) or on the Brannock Device. Compared to Nike sizes, take a half size smaller. Alden Barrie/Van last 9E translates to 10EE.
