Cohérence - The spring collection

Posted by Sepp Dedeyne on

Cohérence is back for the summer, as the brand is very detail driven, referencing iconic artists and focussing on in-house designed fabrics, the perfect fit and smaller, carefully considered details we choose to take an in depth look at their spring-summer collection.

A new style this summer is the Jackson, inspired by the rail worker jacket worn by the American painter Jackson Pollock. A sublime chore coat which has all the pockets and functionality of a work jacket, but the finesse you would look for in a sartorial jacket.

Cohérence really shines in their fabric selection, the Jackson is available in their in-house cotton-linen Chevron cloth. The fabric whose warp is linen and the weft is cotton. This construction keeps the sense of the dry touch of linen but saves the horizontal tension so that the fabric doesn't crease as much and retains it's silhouette and drape nicely. We also stock it in their Jaspé Striped Twill. For this fabric they applied a marl yarn of the yarn-dyed stripe to reconstruct the look of an early 20th century utility stripe, while giving it a fresh and summery look.

The Kees jacket is back in the same cotton-linen Chevron, which makes it the perfect relaxed jacket to pop-over a T-shirt during the summer months.

This double breasted work jacket is based on the jacket worn by Dutch born painter Kees van DongenKees was a Dutch Born Painter, but was later in his life naturalised French. The Picture, on which the jacket is based, was taken in 1952. By that time he was already liven several decades in Montmartre, Paris. It is believed that his Double breasted chore jacket, these are not very common, was purchased in the City of Paris. The small "dish" Coin watch pocket on the lower left chest, which is not present on the original jacket, is a hommage to the Japanese National Railroad jackets of the 1950's.

The Alain trouser is their relaxed drawstring trouser based on the pants seen on Alain Gerbault, a French Venturer, who is known to be the first Solo Navigator who Sailed the Atlantic from East to West. But in his Spare time he would mix with the "Beau Monde" in France, especially at the Cote d'Azur. After the WWI he would become a Professional Tennis player. In 1920 he would participate in the Tennis tournament of the Beau Site Hotel, in Cannes. During this event: Alain (Right) is pictured wearing the pants, accompanied by Suzanne Lenglen (Left) and Jacques-Henri Lartigue (Middle).

The pants are available in three different fabrics and offer a a relaxed, luxurious drawstring trouser which will be your friend in the coming summer months.

With this collection we think Cohérence offers a relaxed summer wardrobe, referencing the past but improving on it, seeing the beauty in the old but adapting it for a modern wardrobe.
